About Himalayans
Himalayans are not considered a pure breed of cats by the CFA, however, Himalayans are actually a product of breeding Persian cats and Siamese. After many years the breed has finnaly been recognized by the CFA however they are offically recognized as a type of Persian. Himalayans feature characteristics of both Persian and Siamese. The long coats are attributes from Persians as well as thier recessed nose (flat face). The color points are attributed to thier Siamese heritage. Tradionally it is the Siamese breed that have color points on thier paws and noses. Himalayans are high maintence, thier long fur coats require daily brushing and because of thier recessed nose (flat face) they are prone to upper respitory issues and eye infections. That being said, however if they are well cared for they make excellent companion pets. There is no need to worry about these upper respitory issues for they are fairly common and highly manageable.
